Housing Now
Blue Temple

Solution Overview & Benefits
Housing Now is a low-cost, climate-resilient housing solution developed by Blue Temple, a social design studio founded by architect Raphaël Ascoli. Originally implemented in Myanmar, this housing model uses locally sourced bamboo and compressed earth bricks to construct modular homes that are durable, flood-resistant, and suited to tropical climates. Designed to be easily assembled by local builders with minimal tools, the homes provide a dignified, sustainable alternative to traditional shelters, especially in areas affected by displacement, conflict, or natural disasters.
Key features:
- Built using renewable bamboo and natural materials
- Modular and easily replicable design
- Suited for flood-prone and tropical environments
- Created through participatory design with local communities
- Low carbon footprint and minimal waste
History & Development
Blue Temple launched the Housing Now project in Myanmar in response to the acute housing needs caused by the 2021 military coup and associated humanitarian crisis. Drawing on local construction traditions and materials, the team developed a modular prototype focused on speed, affordability, and climate resilience. The project empowered local workers and artisans to participate in the building process, fostering a sense of ownership and community resilience. The model gained international attention for its design excellence and socially conscious approach and is now being studied for replication in other low-resource settings.
