Supertowel™ is a reusable and highly durable towel that includes a permanently bonded anti-microbial layer. It is designed to provide clean hands without using soap and using only a small amount of water. When wetted and rubbed against the hands, the pathogens will be transferred to the towel and killed.
The antimicrobial technology forms a positively charged layer on the fabric. This layer will attract and kill the negatively charged microbes, like bacteria and fungi. The treatment does not contain any harmful chemicals.
Supertowel has been developed in cooperation with the Humanitarian Innovation Fund (HIF) and London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), and during the course of the project, we have had different partners join in, among others the Danish Refugee Council (DRC).
RealRelief have performed a clinical trial, showing that Supertowel is at least as efficacious as soap and water when used for handwashing. A field study in Ethiopia in cooperation with DRC and LSHTM was undertaken. The study concluded that the users readily accepted the Supertowel and that it seemed to increase handwashing frequency.
