PermaNet® long-lasting insecticidal bed nets (LLIN) play a critical role in the fight against malaria. Vector control tools are the main way to prevent and reduce malaria transmission, a disease that kills over 400,000 people a year. Recommended by the World Health Organization, PermaNet® LLINs last for a minimum of 3 years and require no re-treatment or dipping. PermaNet® 2.0 remains the most widely tested LLIN and is pre-treated with deltamethrin. PermaNet® 3.0 utilizes a combination of pyrethroid insecticide and piperonyl butoxide (PBO) and was deployed as the first PBO LLIN on the market designed to fight insecticide resistance. More than 800 million PermaNet® bed nets have been produced since 2002, protecting over an estimated 1.6 billion people.
