In this newly designed swirl flame LPG canteen burner, the mixing tube is fitted with lower part of burner barrel tangentially at 20 degree inclination with the barrel horizontal axis. As a result, it provides a perfect homogeneous mixing of gas air mixture can be achieved due to swirling motion of mixture inside of barrel for tangential entry of high velocity mixture from mixing tube. The indigenous process of mixing of pre-flame mixture improves the quality of combustion.

Due to swirling motion of flame, residential time of flame in contact with cooking pot is increased. Thus, thermal efficiency is increased. During test in Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (Chennai) measured thermal efficiency of new swirl flame burner was 49.5%. It is 3.36% higher than conventional T-22 (or M-22) burner for same gas burning rate.

So, ultimate LPG consumption in new burner- 93.2 unit in place of 100 unit consumption in T-22 / M-22 burner for same heat generation. Therefore, the percentage of fuel saved in swirl flame burner compared to the T-22 / M-22 burner is- 100 – 93.2 = 6.8%.

History & Development

In conventional LPG cooking burners, after initial mixing of gas and air in a mixing tube, the second stage mixing is arranged inside space of perforated burner head. However, high quality mixing is not possible in such process. Also, the tiny gas exit ports get blocked often due to carbon formation in the ports.

Due to presen demand, the present burner design was developed.
